Barber Program
1000 Clock HoursÂ
Classes beginning in late 2021.
Achieve your full potential in modern hair cutting, hair styling, shaving, clipper cuts, beard design and manicuring. Gain the knowledge and skills to become a licensed Class A Barber through demonstrations, hands-on practice, and classroom study. No previous experience required.
The curriculum for the Class A Barber certificate in a post-secondary program consists of 1000 clock hours of instruction in barber courses.
(30 weeks for full-time students) (50 weeks for part-time students)
1. Theory: 180 Clock Hours consist of:
A. Anatomy, physiology, and histology, consisting of the study of:
Hair, skin, muscles, nerves, cells, circulatory system,
digestion, and bones.
B. Texas Barbet law and rules
C. Bacteriology, sterilization, and sanitation
D. Disorders of the skin, scalp, and hair
E. Salesmanship
F. Barbershop management
G. Chemistry
H. Shaving
I. Scalp, hair treatments and skin
J. Sanitary professional techniques
K. Professional ethics
L. Scientific fundamentals of barbering
M. Cosmetic preparations
N. Shampooing and rinsing
O. Cutting and processing curly and over-curly hair
P. Haircutting male and female
Q. Theory of massage of scalp, face, and neck
R. Hygiene and good grooming
S. Barber implements
T. Honing and stropping
U. Mustaches and beards
V. Facial treatments
W. Electricity and light therapy
X. History of Barbering
2. Instruction in practical work, 1320 clock hours consisting of the study of:
A. Dressing the hair, consisting of:
i. Men’s haircutting
ii. Children’s haircutting
iii. Woman’s haircutting
iv. cutting and processing curly and over-curly hair
v. Razor cutting
B. Shaving
C. styling
D. Shampooing and rinsing
E. Bleaching and dyeing of the hair
F. Waving hair
G. Straightening

Cosmetology Operator to Class A Barber Curriculum
The curriculum for the Class A Barber certificate while holding a Cosmetology Operator license consists of 300 hours, to be completed in a course of not less than 9 weeks, as follows:
1.Instruction in theory, 25 clock hours consisting of:
A. History of Barbering
B. Barber laws and rules review
C. Implements, honing, and stropping
D. Shaving
E. Men’s haircutting and tapering
F. Beard and mustache trimming and design
G. Hair color service
H. Permanent waving and relaxing review
I. Manicuring and nail care review
J. Facial treatments and skin care review
K. Anatomy and physiology review
L. Blow-dry styling review
M. Shampooing and conditioning
2. Instruction in practical work, 275 clock hours consisting of:
A. Men’s haircutting and tapering
B. Shaving, mustache and beard trimming
C. Hair coloring
D. permanent waving and relaxing
E. Facial treatments
F. Shampooing and conditioning and blow-drying styling
